Art Conservation and Restoration Services
My development as an artist has always been deeply connected with the study of history and art of the past, naturally this led to the studying of antique paintings, historical methods and materials. Thus a passion for art conservation developed into regularly working with and repairing antique paintings, dealing with all common problems, from cleaning, tears , relining, flaking paint, etc. If you have a damaged piece in need of repair, feel free to contact me to discuss further options, I’d be happy to hear from you.
-
Damaged and Torn Canvases
It is common for antique paintings to have tears or become detached from their support. Relining the painting to a new support is often the best choice for stabilizing the piece and preserving it for future generations.
-
Removal of Old Varnish and Revarnishing
Many old paintings become discolored with age, often appearing dark or amber colored. This is not how they appeared originally, often times the old varnishes yellow over time causing this effect. Upon careful removal, the original appearance can be restored.
-
Cleaning and Consolidation of Flaking Paint
Many years of dirt and grime can several damage and effect a painting’s appearance. Atmospheric conditions can also cause the deterioration of the painting if not carefully preserved. Cleaning the surface and consolidating damaged areas can significantly increase the life and value of a painting.
