Artist Statement
I am drawn to the beauty and sublimity of the natural world and seek to convey the emotional experience of nature and the passage of time in my work. The act of painting is an expression of my passion for nature, history and architecture. I have chosen representational art as the medium to best express my sentiments and vision despite current socio-cultural/political trends in art. I believe in the power and potential of representational art, aiming to render the world both as it is seen and felt.
I have taken great inspiration from the tradition of landscape painting and through countless hours of study and observation have sought to understand the timeless qualities composing great artworks from preceding centuries. I often work directly from nature and have found this to be the essential element of my working method as it allows me to build an emotional connection to the subject and sharpen observation skills.
I believe that the pursuit of beauty in the classical sense and it’s redemptive qualities to be amongst the highest aims of art. I aim not merely to paint a beautiful picture but through the pursuit of beauty hope to rouse a contemplative narrative for the viewer and reflect upon the transcendental experience of nature for the individual.
